JULY EVENTS AT FAIRGROUNDS
Chill Out at One of These Cool Events


June 13, 2006 - When the fun heats up outside, visitors will find one of the Fairgrounds many cool activities as a way to chill out and relax this July.

Here’s what’s coming up:

Ongoing: Afternoons in the Country
Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday folks can re-live Florida’s rural past at Cracker Country. Visitors can shop in the Terry Store and learn about life in the 1890’s through costumed historical interpretations in select areas as a new audio history tour highlights the day. Hours are 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $2 per person and includes the use of the audio history tour CD and player. Groups of 10 or more should call 813-627-4225 for a reservation. There is no charge for parking. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance.

July 1: Kelly Clarkson Concert
The month of July starts off with one of America’s most talented and beautiful idols, Kelly Clarkson. Clarkson quickly reached the number one spot on the charts with her most noteworthy hits such as ”Because of You” and ”Since U Been Gone.” This award-winning singer performs at the Ford Amphitheatre as part of her 24 city 'Addicted' Tour. Clarkson will perform with special guest Rooney on Saturday, July 1 at 8:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $75, $55, and $45 for reserved seats or $25 for lawn seats, which include tax and parking. July 3: Shriner’s Convention - Mounted Drill Team Competition
Shrine units will compete in mounted drill team exercises beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the Covered Arena at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center. The Shriners of North America will hold their 132nd Imperial Council Session in Tampa on July 1-6, 2006. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. Admission and parking are free.

July 6-8: Florida 4-H State Equestrian Competition
Folks will want to come see the best qualifying exhibitors from throughout Florida in the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center during this three-day event. Approximately 300 of Florida’s 4-H members from around the state will compete for the opportunity to be one of the 42 representing Florida at the Southern Regional 4-H Horse Championships. The competition begins at 8:00 a.m. each day and culminates on Saturday with a Horse Show Awards Program at 7:00 p.m. where awards will be presented to individuals from each major division (Hunter, Western, Speed Events, and Saddle Seat). Admission and parking are free for visitors. Participants should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance.

July 7: The Black Crowes Concert
Rock n’ Roll band, The Black Crowes with special guests Robert Randolph & The Family Band and Drive By Truckers, will perform at the Ford Amphitheatre on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are currently on sale: $49.50 and $37.50 for reserved seats and $22.00 for lawn seats, including tax and parking. July 8: KC’s Boogie Blast Concert

July 13: Chicago and Huey Lewis & The News Concert
One of the best-selling U.S. groups ever, Chicago, is coming to the Ford Amphitheatre with special guests, Huey Lewis and the News. Fans will get to hear chart toppers from each group such as "Saturday in the Park" and "You're the Inspiration" by Chicago and "Heart of Rock & Roll" and "Power of Love" by Huey Lewis and the News. Folks won’t want to miss this chance to see these two amazing bands in one concert, one night, Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Ford Amphitheatre. July 23: John Fogerty with Willie Nelson Concert
On Sunday at 7:30 p.m., John Fogerty and Willie Nelson will perform at the Ford Amphitheatre rain or shine. No music lover will want to miss this chance to come out and rock the house with these two legends. July 29: Junior Showmanship Clinic
Sponsored by Hillsborough County 4-H and the Tampa Bay Kennel Club, the Florida State Fairgrounds will once again be the place to be on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Attendees will gather in the Special Events Center for a full day of fun and education about all aspects of Junior Showmanship. The clinic is free of charge to all Florida youth ages eight to 18 and participants should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. Advance registration is required before July 15, 2006.
