Ongoing: Afternoons in the Country

Every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday folks can re-live Florida’s rural past in Cracker Country. Visitors can learn about life in the 1890’s through costumed historical interpretations in select areas, as an audio history tour highlights the day. Hours are 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Admission is $2 per person and includes the use of the audio history tour CD and player. Groups of 10 or more should call 813-627-4225 for a reservation. Sept. 26 – Dec. 8: Cracker Country School Tours – 2006 Fall Season

Students will spend a morning learning about rural Florida history while visiting historic sites and doing hands-on historical activities. The tours are scheduled for Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except on Oct. 24-27 and Nov. 21-27. Schools must register in advance to attend a tour. Nov. 3-5: Florida’s Largest Home Show

Held in the Expo Hall, Florida's Largest Home Show provides a one-stop marketplace to see more than 900 exhibits showcasing new products and services in decorating, remodeling and landscaping for the home. Show hours are Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $8 for adults; seniors ages 55 and up pay $7, and children 12 and younger enter free with an adult. Nov. 3-5: Harvest Days Horse Show

The annual Harvest Days Horse Show returns to the Charlie Lykes Arena for a fast-paced competition featuring Saddlebreds, Morgans, Roadsters and Ponies. Classes are held Friday at 12:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Nov. 4: DeaFest 2006

This event, sponsored by the Florida Association of the Deaf, will be held at the Charles M. Davis Special Events Center on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The extravaganza will feature exhibits, entertainment, food and much more. Tickets can be purchased online at www.fadcentral.org/deafest.php through Oct. 27. Advance prices are $8 for members; $10 for non-members, and $5 for children 12 and younger. Nov. 4: H.T. Hackney Deli Food Show

H.T. Hackney Co. hosts this private deli food show for the convenience store industry in the Florida Center on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Vendors will demonstrate the latest products customers want at competitive prices. Attendees must register in advance to participate in this event. Parking is $5 per car or $10 per RV or bus. Participants should enter the Fairgrounds via the MLK, Jr. Boulevard entrance. Nov. 4-5: YuGiOh Sneak Preview – Cyberdark Impact

Visitors will be able to participate in several types of tournament play at the YuGiOh Sneak Preview held in the Pavilion. Open dueling entry fee is $20 for 5 booster packs and tournament fights are $25 for 5 packs to build a 20 card minimum deck. There will be four or eight player single-elimination booster drafts and constructed side events on both days for entry fees from $7 to $15. Spectators are welcome to watch tournament play at no charge. Registration begins at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, and the event closes at 4:00 p.m. both days. Nov. 9-12: CFHJA Horse Show

Various horse breeds will compete in both hunter and jumper categories at the Central Florida Hunter Jumper Association (CFHJA) Horse Show at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center. Events begin at 8:00 a.m. each day and last through the daylight hours. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. Nov. 9-12: Tampa Bay RV Show

The Florida RV Trade Association hosts this event, held at the Expo Hall and outdoors, filled with hundreds of new and used recreational vehicles of all varieties on display and for sale. There will be exhibits on campgrounds, finance, insurance, as well as suppliers of parts, accessories and supplies. Show hours are Thursday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults; free for children 16 and younger. Nov. 10-11: Sunshine State Racing, Walking and Spotted Saddle Horse Show

Racking, Walking and Spotted Saddle horses and riders of all levels will participate in preliminary and championship classes in the Charlie Lykes Arena at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center. Friday classes start at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday classes begin at 6:00 p.m. Admission and parking are free for spectators. Visitors should enter the Fairgrounds via the Orient Road entrance. The third annual Junior League Holiday Gift Market will include over 100 merchants selling upscale clothing, jewelry, handbags, art and children’s items in the Entertainment Hall. Nov. 11: FCPA’s Safety and Skills Competition

Florida Concrete and Products Association (FCPA) hosts this event for the construction industry in the Florida Center and outdoor areas. Nov. 16: USF Education in Action Luncheon

Nearly 650 business, educational, government and community leaders will gather for the annual Education in Action Luncheon and 50th Anniversary Celebration hosted by the University of South Florida (USF) College of Education in conjunction with the Florida State Fair Authority. Highlights during the luncheon will include prominent guest speakers, a preview to the 2007 Florida State Fair, and partnership recognition. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. and program begins at 12:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 each; proceeds benefit the USF College of Education programs. The Arabian Horse Association of Florida (AHAF) hosts the 37th annual Thanksgiving show featuring Arabian, Half-Arabian and National Show Horses from throughout the country. Day classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and evening classes begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in the Charlie Lykes Arena at the Bob Thomas Equestrian Center. Held in the Entertainment Hall, this event features one-of-a-kind creations and hand-made crafts from artisans all over the nation. Show hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, and 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is $4 per person; children 12 and younger are admitted free with a paid adult. Show hours are Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is $9 per person; children under 12 admitted free; admission is good for both days.
